Carbon Sequestration Rates in Van Panchayat Forests and Their Benefits under Redd
نویسنده
چکیده
This study assessed the potential of carbon stock and carbon sequestration rates in Van Panchayat forests at an altitude of 15001800m. The Total forest biomass was 308.3 t ha -1 , of the total biomass tree layer contributed the most, followed by herbs and shrubs. The forest litter biomass varied between 5.4 t ha -1 (in rainy season) and 6.6 t ha -1 (in winter season). Maximum Carbon sequestration rate was 5.68 t ha -1 year -1 while, minimum carbon sequestration rate was 2.03 t ha -1 year -1 . In the present study the girth class of major species was in the younger size of 30-80cm. The Van Panchayats will have greater potential for future sequestration. If we want to maximize carbon sequestration rates, we need forest management practices that results in healthy forests of all ages. We should give careful consideration to encouraging the conversion of marginal agricultural and range lands to Van Panchayat forest land.

REDD+ and Human Rights: Addressing Synergies between International Regimes
The making of the REDD+ mechanism in the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has raised specific concerns on how to reconcile incentives for forest carbon sequestration with the protection of the rights of the numerous communities that rely upon forests for their livelihood, shelter, and survival. Although the nascent REDD+ mechanism provides an oppor...

An attempt to estimate the real value of a set of environmental goods and services, particularly forests are needed that at present, various pressures from economic incentives and goals have been the basis for their destruction and deterioration. Therefore, this study tries to investigate the amount of degradation of vegetation and fixed organic carbon per hectare and its value with social cost...

BACKGROUND A large proportion of the tropical rain forests of central Africa undergo periodic selective logging for timber harvesting. The REDD+ mechanism could promote less intensive logging if revenue from the additional carbon stored in the forest compensates financially for the reduced timber yield. RESULTS Carbon stocks, and timber yields, and their associated values, were predicted at t...

Selective logging is the most prevalent land-use change in the tropics. Despite the resulting degradation of forest structure, selectively logged forests still harbor a substantial amount of biodiversity leading to suggestions that their protection is the next best alternative to conserving primary, old-growth forests. Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) is a climate change mitigation strategy employed to reduce the intensity of deforestation and GHGS emissions. In recent decades, drastic land use changes in Mazandaran province caused a substantial reduction in the amount of Hyrcanian forests. The present research based on objectives of REDD projects paid to identify of fore...
